6 and 8-inch dresser couplings (Figure 1) are found on many large transformer's cooling systems. If additional tightening does not fix the leak, then oil must be drained from the cooling system in order to replace the worn gaskets. [ Click to enlarge photos ]

TDS Repair Technique
TDS's repair method does not require any draining of oil and the
repair can be made while the transformer is energized.

TDS has standard clamp designs for the typical dresser couplings
found on transformers. The two-piece clamp is fitted
around the dresser and bolted together (Figure 2).
Note the two gasket seals on the inside diameter of the clamp. These gaskets seat securely around the diameter of the pipe to prevent sealant leakage during injection. |

Figure 3 shows the clamp after installation. After the
clamp is installed, it is pumped with TDS sealant thereby
fixing the leak. |
